Nipponbashi Street Festa is a cosplay event taking place in the streets of Osaka’s Den-Den Town, in the Kansai area of Japan. It resumed after the Covid break, to be held over one day, on a Sunday in mid-May, with several parades and an after party dedicated to anime songs.

Nipponbashi Street Festa takes place each spring since 2005 in the electronic district of Den-Den Town located in the south-east of Osaka city center. Until 2020, the event was staged in mid-March on the Sunday before the Spring equinox. On hold during the Covid pandemic, the festival resumed in 2024. It now takes place on a Sunday in mid-May. This festive and colorful event attracts nearly 10,000 visitors each year, who can meet robots, various anime cosplays or attend to live music concerts.

Mirroring the organization of the Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival, Nipponbashi Street Festa has 3 attendance categories:

  • Cosplayers;
  • Photographers; and,
  • General public.

Admission is free for the general public who can freely admire the creations and stagings, but cosplayers and photographers, either amateurs or professionals, must purchase an admission ticket (about ¥3,000 (~US$19.04) per participant in 2025) to officially be part of the event.

In a cheerful ambiance, visitors can discover a large array of costumes, dabbing in the futuristic, whimsical or cute vibes, and even sometimes quite daring. Walking in the streets remains enjoyable despite the crowd.

While some participants come with their kids, not all the performances are suitable to the youngest public. You might find shortly-dressed female cosplayers surrounded by groups of photographers for example; other girls also wear maid outfits. As a reminder, receiving consent from a model is required before taking their picture. Visitors not wearing a photographer badge are theoretically not allowed to take posed pictures.

Shopping possibilities for manga, self-published fan books, figurines, collectible card and other merchandising are plenty while enjoying the encounter with one’s favorite heroes.

Cosplayers can either pose in the streets, or take part to one of the parades set up near Sakaisuji main avenue, near Ebisucho station. Several areas of Nipponbashi are therefore actively taking part to the costume festival, such as:
