Haneda Airport Garden is a commercial complex connected to the international Terminal 3 of Haneda airport, located on an artificial island in the south of Tokyo in Japan. Inaugurated in 2023 as a part of the development of international flights from Haneda, it adds a rather high-end and comfortable touch to international travels.

Haneda Airport Garden is located on the same polder as Haneda International Airport by Tokyo Bay. This business and hotel 🏨 complex, managed by the Sumitomo Fudosan group, is opened to everyone: international travelers and people living in Japan. While not an airport facility per se, it is nonetheless connected to its Terminal 3 by the 2F level and to the same Monorail 🚝 and Keikyu train 🚅 stations as the airport.

A full range of services for travelers

Haneda Airport Garden is spreading over 12 floors and about 100,000sqm, like a small city designed to complement the airport’s offer, with:

  • More than 60 shops to purchase last minute souvenirs, or for specific needs such as a large drugstore and a konbini;
  • About 20 restaurants and several cafés;
  • The Omotenashi Visitors Center, open 24/7, offering touristic recommendations and a baggage check service.

There are also:

  • 2 high-end hotels, spreading from level 4F to 11F: Villa Fontaine Grand and its 1,500 rooms; and Villa Fontaine Premier, on the luxury side, whose 160 rooms have a view on the Tama river and Mount Fuji (on a clear weather day). This Villa Fontaine complex is the largest airport hotel in Japan;
  • A onsen ♨️ on the rooftop at the 12F level, called Izumi Tenku no Yu. It is open to all, hotel customers and one-day travelers, including people with tattoo (provided that the tattoo is covered) at any time of the day or night. Its open-air rotenburo bath offers to relax while admiring the ballet of airplanes landing and taking off at Haneda.

Cool Japan at the airport’s doorstep

A smooth transition provides an easy access from the airport to the shopping mall, which benefits from a simple decoration inspired by the traditional Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetics. Its soft lightning is part of the pleasant experience in a spacious environment, where it is easy to navigate.

Haneda Airport Garden has the same large entrance whether arriving from Terminal 3 or the Monorail and Keikyu train stations. It opens on a long pathway, one side of which is lined with about 15 shops dedicated to the promotion of Japanese products. This corridor is part of the 2F level and connects to the Omotenashi Visitors Center and the elevator for both Villa Fontaine hotels, their luxury restaurant and the spa Izumi Tenku no Yu.

Note that travelers are required to leave their luggage at a checked baggage counter before entering the shopping mall, either at the Omotenashi Center, or at one of the airports’ counters or coin lockers (paid services).

Shops and restaurants are spread over 2 levels around a large triangular atrium. Famous international brands are represented, but most of the shops sell Japanese products, be they traditional (such as umbrellas, Edo-kiriko glass) or more modern (focusing on manga and anime merch), or consisting of fashion and cosmetics. Haneda Airport Garden is showcasing Japan's soft power so prices tend to lean on the luxury side, but finding affordable gifts is possible.

The restaurant area at the 1F ground floor, including the Oedo food-court, has a range of mainly Japanese cuisine with a large choice of dishes from several regions of Japan. The place is indeed intended to promote the archipelago’s various regions, with the frequent organization of small fairs.

Haneda Airport Garden is a nice halt to spend free time before a flight ✈️ back home, and even purchasing last-minute souvenirs and gifts. People just landing or on a layover can also relax at the onsen or have a nice meal before going to their accommodation or continuing their trip.
