Legoland Japan
The Bricks’ Theme Park in Nagoya
Legoland Japan Resort is an amusement and attractions park located in the Port of Nagoya in Japan. This outdoor facility with immersive rides and playgrounds is fully dedicated to the LEGO brick and makes for a perfect family outing, particularly enjoyable for young children.
Legoland Japan Resort opened in 2017 and is the 1rst LEGO park in Japan and the 2nd of the brand in Asia. It is built on a polder of Nagoya's industrial port, easily reachable by direct train 🚅 from Nagoya JR station, and is located in the heart of a small area dedicated to family leisure, suitable for children of 2 to 12 years old.
A full immersion in the LEGO universe
Despite its small size (about 9.3 hectares), Legoland Japan displays 10,000 various constructions built using 17 millions of small bricks. Contrary to Tokyo and Osaka’s Discovery Centers, that are mostly indoor playgrounds, Legoland Japan Resort offers about 40 rides and attractions, mainly set outdoors.
The park is divided into 8 areas, each themed according to the various worlds explored by the LEGO brand:
- Lego Factory at the entrance, is a small factory-museum, where visitors can receive a brick specially made on site;
- Bricktopia displays numerous LEGO models. The Minifigure Market offers a choice of LEGO parts to create a personalized character;
- Miniland, in the heart of the park, shows miniature reconstitution of Japan’s must-see touristic destinations, only made with LEGO bricks;
- Adventure is dedicated to the exploration of the deep seas and to ancient Egypt;
- Lego City is a small city made of LEGO, with driving tracks for kids’ cars and a fire station;
- Knight's Kingdom develops a medieval fantasy world around a castle;
- Lego Ninjago World is an immersion into the world of the eponymous cartoon; and,
- Pirate Shores explores the theme of the pirates.
Other interesting attractions are: 2 movie theaters, one in LEGO City and one in the Lego Ninjago World, that air short and long movies of the brand; and the Observation Tower that allows an elevated view on the park.
LEGO fans will have fun in their favorite universes, that are the same as in other Legoland Parks of the world. When visiting Japan, Miniland is enjoyable for its miniatures of the archipelago’s iconic landscapes and monuments. Note however that the real location of these places was not taken into account when designing Miniland: Kyoto’s Heian-jingu shrine is set at the foot of Mount Fuji 🗻 (which is not made of bricks) for example! While the set up of sceneries with many characters and vehicles was thoughtfully created, one can’t help but notice that many bricks have been worn down by the passing of time, their colors have faded and were altered by the weather.
A park designed for young children
Legoland Japan Resorts offers an ideal environment for children aged between 2 and 12 years old, as they can run, scream and touch most of the LEGO constructions, and even meet and greet LEGO characters walking around the park. Moreover, as the site is not too big, it can easily be explored over a day, especially thanks to usually quite short waiting lines at the rides, notably on slower business periods. We do recommend however to avoid going on weekends and Japanese holidays.
The park was designed to provide a comfortable experience with:
- Stroller rental available at its entrance;
- Plenty of bathrooms and changing facilities for babies and toddlers;
- Stalls selling simple snacks (fries, nuggets, sandwiches) and drinks vending machines in every world.
The Legoland app helps optimizing the visit, managing access to the rides and movies, with an Internet 📶 connection through a Pocket Wi-Fi or an eSIM. Its use is highly recommended.
On a side note, the park doesn’t have much naturally shaded areas nor trees, something to take into account when visiting in summer. However, pretty much all the worlds have aquatic rides that are ideal to cool off, and water misters and fabric canopies can occasionally be installed; the Duplo Play playground is even permanently covered.
The industrial surrounding and the aerial highway in the background of the park might not seem welcoming, but Legoland successfully entertains the fans of LEGO, from the youngest to the oldest and make a nice family outing. The park includes "resort" in its name as it is adjoined with a Legoland Hotel 🏨 and the Sea Life Aquarium, to extend by 1 day the immersion in the LEGO universe.
Most of LEGO products are available at the main shop, but nothing exclusive to the Japanese park. The LEGOLAND Park Portal (40810) set is available since 2025, February 1rst, like in any other Legoland Park or Discovery Center in the world. To get a souvenir exclusive to Legoland Japan Resort, we recommend visiting the LEGO Factory where you’ll receive a brick marked with the park’s logo, and collecting the stickers offered at each purchase in the park.
In addition to the 2 restaurants in the park, you’ll find other dining possibilities at the small Maker's Pier shopping mall on the way to the station. Train enthusiasts can also enjoy the SCMaglev and Railway Park located in the area.
